What is ICON Teeth Treatment?

ICON (Resin Infiltration) is a micro-invasive dental treatment used to treat:
White spot lesions on teeth
Early tooth decay (before a cavity forms)
Enamel defects from braces or fluorosis
Instead of drilling or placing a filling, the dentist injects a liquid resin into the porous enamel to strengthen it and mask discolouration. Think of it as sealing the tooth from the inside.
Why do white spots happen?
White spots are usually areas of demineralized enamel. Common causes include:
Braces (plaque buildup around brackets)
Fluorosis from excess fluoride in childhood
Early tooth decay
Enamel hypo-mineralisation
In these spots, enamel becomes porous, scattering light differently, which is why it appears chalky white.

How the ICON procedure works (step-by-step)
Etching
A mild acid gel opens the pores of the enamel.
Purpose: remove the surface barrier so the resin can penetrate.
Drying
Alcohol is applied to remove moisture.
This lets the dentist see how well the lesion will blend.
Resin infiltration
A very low-viscosity resin is applied.
It flows deep into the enamel pores via capillary action.
Light curing
A dental curing light hardens the resin.
The pores are now filled and sealed.
Polishing
The tooth is polished to restore smoothness.
Total time: 30–60 minutes.
Normal / Expected Results
Cosmetic results
White spots usually fade significantly or disappear.
The tooth generally looks more uniform in colour.
Results are subtle and natural, not artificially white.
Structural results
Early enamel lesions become stabilised and less likely to progress into cavities.
Longevity
Research shows the cosmetic and protective effects can last several years (often 3–5+ years) if oral hygiene is good.
After treatment appearance
Teeth look smoother and more consistent in colour, though some deeper lesions may still be faintly visible.
How much does icon teeth treatment cost? The cost varies case by case depending on the number of areas that need to be treated and the extent of the improvement needed.
